App-V 5.0 SP2 Hotfix 4 Released!

If you’re using App-V 5, you need this update! With this, users can have full write permissions to the VFS, and can also start applications on network shares without having to give the computer account access. Package branching is back too, so you can test application updates by giving them to users without touching the live package.

There’s plenty more good stuff in this update, check out Tim Mangan’s article for more info:

You can download the update here:

I’ve still yet to test this, but here is the new permissions checkbox in all it’s glory. I recommend enabling this by default and saving it to a template.

I have a slightly related question that you will probably know the answer to. I’m looking for a download of app-v deskop SP2 64 bit. The downloads on MSDN and TechNet seem to only have x86 versions of the SP2 client. Do you know if there is an x64 version, or is SP1 the latest x64 version?

    1. As far as I know, the installers for App-V 5 onward are universal; the setup.exe will extract and run the correct MSI for your platform. Confusingly enough, the hotfix is only labeled as x64!

Great. Thanks, Dan, for the quick response!

Can’t seem to get the Hotfix to install via a MSP, appears to remove the SP2 client and leave the end point in a damaged state.

    1. I don’t recommend ripping apart the App-V 5 installers in general, deploying via the exe is the only supported method!
